Best known for its distinctive trulli dwellings, the town of Alberobello in Puglia is also home to Cantina Albea. Established in 1905, the winery’s story is tightly intertwined with the region’s broader history, and its wines reflect the unique culture and terroir of the Valle d’Itria.
Before they even get a glass in their hand, visitors to Cantina Albea are struck by the winery’s architecture; a striking stone building that houses both the production facilities and a wine museum, showcasing the traditional winemaking processes of the region, including tools and artifacts from across the centuries. It also engages in educational initiatives, hosting tastings and tours that delve into the nuances of winemaking in Puglia.
Its vineyards enjoy calcareous soils and a Mediterranean climate, perfect for cultivating the main indigenous grape varieties. Among these, Primitivo and Negroamaro are prominent, yielding wines with robust flavours and deep colour profiles.
Through its dedication to preserving
and educating visitors on traditional practices, not to mention the quality of its highly typical wines, Cantina Albea is a true ambassador for the craft and culture of Puglian winemaking.
