Meet the winemakers

The story of Rive della Chiesa begins with its founder Giosuè ‘Nino’ Gasparetto, who in his youth emigrated to Australia before returning home to settle in the Montello area (north of Venice in Treviso province). There, he cultivated a small plot on the Montello hill, laying the foundations for the winery that would one day pass to his sons Michele and Luigi Gasparetto. Under their leadership (Michele oversees winemaking and business strategy, while Luigi manages the vineyards) Rive della Chiesa has maintained its small-scale, artisanal ethos even as it has grown in ambition and reach.

While firmly rooted in the Prosecco DOC area, Rive della Chiesa has diversified in recent years, expanding into the Marche region on Italy’s Adriatic coast to cultivate indigenous central-Italian grapes. In 2022, the family acquired an estate in Altidona (Fermo province, Marche) whose certified organic vineyards benefit from maritime breezes and rolling coastal hills, making it ideal for Pecorino and Passerina.

Despite its growth, the winery keeps things personal. Visitors to the Montello winery will often meet the Gasparetto family members themselves. Rive della Chiesa’s unusual dual-regional venture – prosecco hills and pecorino coast – reflects the two main drivers behind the family’s ethos: bringing its wine to an ever larger audience, while expressing the true character of native varietals, technique and terroir.
