Launched in 2018, Green Times Brewing prides itself on providing joy on three distinct levels. First is its line of delicious, highly drinkable craft beers. Second is the naturally sourced CDB that it infuses into every can. And third is its impeccable social and environmental credentials, meaning you can enjoy your beer in the knowledge that you’re on the side of the good guys.
“All our beers are infused with cannabis oil extract (CBD) for a natural way to unwind,” explains founder Thierry Florit. “They are also vegan-friendly, gluten-free and brewed in the UK. Sustainability and the protection of the environment are very important to us, so we have committed ourselves to plant a tree for every beer box sold in order to partly offset our carbon footprint.”
CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It is an essential organic component of the cannabis plant and one of the most active, but does not cause a “high” like its famous cousin - THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). It’s a naturally occurring substance that’s used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm.
“We all have cannabinoid receptors throughout our bodies known as the endocannabinoid system, which help to regulate our internal functions,” explains Thierry. “CBD can promote balance within the body and scientific research has recognised some of the enhanced mood and relaxation. Plus, hops and cannabis both belong to the same cannabaceae family, so are great brewing partners to make naturally chilled beers.”
The brewing process itself is exactly the same as that used to create a high quality IPA, but with a special proprietary additional step for adding the CBD. Green Times’ brewing credentials are tip top, as evidenced by its collaboration with Northern Monk on Green Heathen, two years in a row, with further collaborations lined up for the future.
Green Times latest launch was a CBD-infused NEIPA, Take Five, at the beginning of July, bursting with tropical fruits such as mango and passionfruit, as well as a touch of pine. This and all of Green Times’ beers are available online, at greentimesbrewingshop.com.
