Great British Beer Festival

Here are 10 reasons why you should mark your calendars for this unmissable event.

The Great British Beer Festival (GBBF) will make a triumphant return to London following an unplanned two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. Taking place at Olympia London from 2-6 August 2022, its return is a hugely positive sign for the industry. With nearly a thousand different cask ales, craft beers, real ciders, perries, gins & wines under one roof, there’s plenty to celebrate!

1. A chance to sample the very best in cask

Cask beer is a rare find outside of the UK and this year we will be featuring the best of the best. We are welcoming back the cream of the crop with our favourite brewery bars such as Titanic, Adnams, Siren and Harvey’s. New brewers to the festival will also be on show such as Brew 61, Black Storm, Iron Pier, Ossett, Fyne Ales and Vocation. This is in addition to more than 350 breweries represented on the CAMRA bars.

2. An exclusive American taste

As well as a huge range of British cask on show, visitors can also sample some of the very best cask beer America has to offer. Keep your eyes peeled for the ‘Michael Jackson Award’ (the beer writer, not the singer!) which will be given to the best beer on our GBBF ‘Bieres Sans Frontiers’ bars.

3. A huge range of ciders, perries, wines & gins

Alongside the very best in show of cask, visitors can also sample a huge range of real cider, perry and wine plus our biggest selection of gins so far, including many from our favourite breweries.

4. A chance to win the ultimate rugby travel package

Festival visitors will have an exclusive opportunity to enter a competition to win £3,000 worth of sports travel vouchers that can be used towards any rugby travel packages including the Six Nations, Dubai 7’s and official travel packages to France - complete with hotels, flights, transfers and inclusions. Redeemable through leading Sports Travel Operator MSG Tours, more details are coming soon!

5. Discover the best beer of tomorrow

Due to the knock-on effects of the COVID pandemic on our regional heats for the Champion Beer of Britain competition last year, the winner will not be crowned until 2023. However, we are delighted to announce that we have launched a NEW homebrew competition for this year’s festival!

In recognition that some of the best beers of the future are found among today’s homebrewers, CAMRA’s homebrew competition will be judged and announced on the trade day of GBBF. The overall winner will have the chance to commercially brew their beer with Brewhouse & Kitchen, with runner ups receiving fantastic prizes ranging from a year’s worth of beer to VIP tickets to next year’s festival.

6. Enjoy delicious street food

A festival isn’t all about the drink, and we have a brilliant selection of delicious street food to keep you going all day long. From your classic British favourites to new and exotic dishes to try, there is something to suit everyone’s tastes. New stalls this year include No 2 Pound Street (v) providing handmade farmhouse cheeses, Mexican Seoul (v) – a unique fusion of Korean and Mexican street food and Gupta’s Bombay Street Food (v), boasting the yummiest tandoori chicken wrap in town.

7. Dive in deeper with a tutored tasting

Our beer experts will be running a fantastic schedule of beer tastings throughout the week to help you learn more about the craft which goes into making Britain’s best beers. Discover some fool proof beer and cheese pairings, go on a tasting tour of London, or join an introduction to IPA.

8. Huge programme of discovery

You can also take part in a packed schedule of informal brewer and cider maker led tastings throughout the week at the Discovery Bar in the CAMRA Village. These are designed to help you learn more about the ingredients, techniques and people behind Britain’s best beers and ciders. Experience the freshest hops and malts in our ingredients display and learn more about how you can craft the finest brews known to humanity, right at home with The Malt Millers, who will be on hand all week to answer your home brew questions.

9. Meet the authors

For those who love reading about beer just as much as drinking it – you’re in luck. CAMRA authors will be attending the festival throughout the week running book signings, meet and greets and beer tours. Why not join Jonny Garrett as he takes you on a tour of beer throughout the seasons, all available on the festival grounds? Or discover the World’s Greatest Beers – a selection of 250 beers from around the world that are available here in the UK - with the authors.

10. Support a good cause

The Great British Beer Festival wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of dedicated volunteers from across the country who converge on London to organise the best beer show in town. Nearly a thousand volunteers take part in the event on behalf of the Campaign for Real Ale, a not-for-profit consumer group that campaigns on a range of issues to support the beer, cider, pubs and clubs industry and ultimately, the consumers. All festival proceeds go directly back into CAMRA campaigning activity and as a not-for-profit event, your attendance supports a good cause.

If you’re ready to book your tickets, simply head over to GBBF.ORG.UK. Tickets are now on sale - entry is £20 and visitors will receive a souvenir glass, programme and two half-pint tokens to kick off their day of beer tasting. VIP and corporate ticket packages are also available.
