Change is gonna come

Meet Heist Brew Co.

The last number of years have made for an interesting and transitional period for Heist Brew Co. Founded in 2017, the brewery upped stakes and moved to Sheffield from just outside of Chesterfield just over two years ago now. Founders Dan Hunt and Adam France have of course been familiar with the city far longer than that, and Dan says that although change over the past decade has been slow, he’s seen the city evolve in exciting and unexpected ways.

For one, he says that just over 10% of the city’s population is made up of students, which is changing attitudes in the city, and making it a much more open minded place, at least when it comes to modern craft beer. Further to this, he says that although Sheffield is divided into more or less three parts – the city centre, Kelham Island and the stretch around Abbeydale Road – the marriage of Sheffield’s modern and traditional cultures is pulling communities across all parts of the city closer together.

With Heist having taken a bet on Sheffield, it’s about to invest further in its commitment to the city by making plans for the future. “At the moment, everything is super manual in the brewery, more or less homebrewing on steroids. The hope is to take a big step up in another year or two, and upgrade our brewhouse when we’re working at max capacity on our current kit.”

If you’re yet to visit Heist Brew Co, its state of the art taproom in Kelham Island hosts 30 taps, street food, and runs a busy schedule of events, making it more than the perfect place to drop in for a pint, but a proper evening and weekend destination too.
