Beer Awards 2024

That our industry is in constant flux is both a blessing and curse; at times it's hard to keep up, or — God knows — catch a break, and at others tastes and technology don’t feel like they’re changing fast enough. The push and pull of this particular flavour of chaos isn’t unique to beer, though it seems to manifest most obviously among movers and shakers who struggle and strive even when the end goal isn’t always clear. 

Over the years, our annual Awards issue has acted as a snapshot of who’s been doing what, so we can reflect on something static as times and tastes change. Pausing to consider the year in beer is also an opportunity to celebrate and commiserate, acknowledge hard times and small victories alike. As such, we ask all the breweries we speak to for this issue three questions; what did you achieve this year that you’re most proud of? Do you have any goals for next year? If you could give your younger self some advice, what would it be? The answers we received come from breweries big and small, from all over the world, and prove reflective, earnest, informative, and oftentimes humourous. 

Waging bets on the future can feel trite when times are tough, but over the last year the industry seems to have collectively recalibrated what success looks like. Breweries have broken the silence about how hard it can be to put one foot in front of the other in the face of pub closures, and continued cost of living pressures, so that now to say one's plans for the next year are “to keep going”, invites congratulations, and celebration in a way we haven’t seen before. 

Nothing changes day by day, but in hindsight everything is different, or whatever the saying is. One thing for certain is that heading into 2025, the beer industry is stronger, smarter, closer and more creative than it's ever been before.
