Collaboration between breweries can help our industry grow, learn, feel supported and connected, but it’s not the only way to invite nuance into beer. Signature Brew, stalwarts of the now-famous Blackhorse Beer Mile, have been banging the drum for interdisciplinary collaboration since day one, hosting gigs at the brewery, curating playlists to enjoy with beer (and vice versa), and making legendary band collaboration brews with Hot Chip, alt-J, Mastodon, IDLES, The Darkness, Sports Team, Enter Shikari, Big Joanie, Mogwai, Ed Gamble and Hospital Records to name but a few.
“As a group we've spent a lot of time over the last year discussing and crystallising exactly what we're about as a brewery,” says founder and managing director, Tom Bott. “Understanding the central stories that define Signature Brew has made everything we do easier and ultimately that has always got to be founded in Brewing Beer That Makes Music Better. This clear strategy has given us the focus to deliver unforgettable experiences week-in, week-out, that showcase exactly what Signature Brew is all about. From providing a platform to the next breakout artists such as Skegss or Liz Lawrence, to working with living legends such as The Libertines and Hak Baker we've been blessed with some amazing moments in 2024, and our role is to ensure great beer is always at the heart of it.”
The last year has seen two new beers — Haze Machine and Rare Groove — introduced to Signature Brew’s range, both developed on Signature Brew’s pilot kit, before being released to the public. “There will be tinkering and plotting over the dark months ahead to ensure we've got 2025's bangers all lined up.”
Above all else, Tom says that the future will be informed by what Signature Brew has learned from the past 13 years. “Firstly, be true to who you are and what you believe in, but stay flexible. We’ve learned it’s important to always broaden your horizons via collaboration; that way you'll naturally innovate and push the boundaries.”
