The Duke of Hamilton and Loci Pubs are a story of community and connection, with roots that trace back to the Horseshoe in Hampstead, Camden Town Brewery’s original pub. Back then, the founders of Loci Pubs Ben and Ed Robson, Adam Gostyn and Scott Soteriou, were all working at the Horseshoe, while Pete Brown and James Garstang, now owner and head brewer at Forest Road Brewery, were living above the pub. After years of working on separate paths, a shared passion for quality beer and great pubs brought both parties back together in 2023, when Forest Road began supplying the Loci estate.
“The Duke of Hamilton, with its rich history and strong community ties, was the perfect venue to reunite us with the Forest Road crew, and create something special together,” says Ben. “The Duke is a historic gem in Hampstead, having been a beloved pub since 1721. It joined the Loci Pubs family to continue its legacy of being a community-focused venue, and today feeds our aspirations to create warm, welcoming spaces where people come together to enjoy great food, drinks, and events.”
The Duke of Hamilton has long been shaped by the passion and creativity of its community, with the continued support of loyal patrons making the pub a go-to spot for great beer, great food (especially the legendary Sunday Roasts) and live music at its downstairs jazz club. “The feedback and support from our customers have helped us keep the spirit of The Duke alive while adapting to new trends, ensuring the pub remains a beloved destination for both locals and visitors. We’re also proud of our long-running friendship and partnership with Forest Road Brewery, a collaboration that has enriched our beer offerings and kept things fresh.”
This past year, the Loci pub group opened the first venue in its estate to offer beautiful rooms above another fantastic pub. “It's been so rewarding to see both The Duke and our new venue, The William in Kendal Rise, buzzing with energy,” says Ben. “Returning to a sense of normalcy after the challenges of COVID has been a true blessing, and welcoming our community back into our pubs has reminded us of what makes these spaces so special.”
