Though best known for modern, hop-forward styles, Bianca Road’s Full Beans Vanilla and Coffee Porter was a hit with our readers earlier this year. We know better than to argue with the masses and as such, are offering the brewery its roses with our Best Porter Award. “We are all about balance here at Bianca Road,” says sales manager Terry Staples. “For us a great porter should be smooth, rich and drinkable. It's all about the layers of roasted malts. Plus some lovely adjuncts from time to time.”

Bianca Road Brew Co opened its doors in 2016 with a view to supplying locals with fresh, hop-forward beers with an emphasis on sustainability. Founder and keen cyclist Reece Woods picked up a taste for US craft on a mammoth cycle from Los Angeles to Miami, and returned to his native London with the vision for a brewery that catered to locals and cared about the planet, but never compromised on flavour.

Recently, Reece has quit the business, but left it in the very capable hands of new co-owners Terry Staples (Sales), Matt Simpson (Ops), and Jordan Fancy (Head Brewer), Dennis Ratcliff and Andrew Fleming, all of whom continue the brewery’s love of adventure, experimentation, and a bloody good porter.

The new ownership has wasted very little time in leaving its mark on the business, opening a brand new taproom to replace its current on-site venue, which will become the brewery’s new and improved cold store, giving it much needed space to make improvements.

When asked if there’s anything Terry would like to see change in the beer world this year, they reply by saying “many things, but I do feel as though most breweries are trying to implement positive change where possible. It's been so tough for breweries the last few years, so just not having to tread water so hard would be nice.”
