Our Member’s Choice Award is always a fun one, being based on Beer52 customer ratings over the last 12 months. This year, ROTT. Brouwers’ milk stout won hearts and minds, with members saying, “now that is how you make a milk stout,” and calling it “one of the easiest to drink stouts I've ever had”.
When we last spoke to co-founder Lisette Tanis she assured us that while ROTT. has and always will be a nomadic brewery, the team would love a taproom and brewing space in which to pilot new recipes. Less than 12 months later and ROTT. is closer than ever to having a home of its own in Rotterdam. “We’ve been busy sorting out all the permits for our own brewery and taproom,” says Lisette. “It’s a long process, but we’re getting there. The goal is to brew our first beers in our own place and celebrate the opening of our taproom by the end of the year. We’re really looking forward to hosting events once the taproom is open, brewing some tasty experimental beers when the brewery is up and running, making our beers more widely available and just keeping the creativity flowing.”

When asked about a change or trend she’d like to see in craft brewing this year, Lisette says — particularly in the Netherlands — it would be great to see a bit more stability and support for small breweries, especially around taxes and regulations. “Costs keep rising and the rules aren’t getting any easier, which makes it tough for independents to grow. A more level playing field would make a big difference. That said, we’re still having an amazing time doing what we do, learning every day, experimenting with new beers, and we genuinely believe the future for craft beer is bright.”
