CAMRA: Oh what a festival

Whether you’re cask-curious or a seasoned real-ale drinker CAMRA’s logo is likely one you’ve spotted behind the bar of your favourite pub; but do you know the story behind this volunteer-led consumer organisation and have you ever considered taking out a membership? 

The Campaign for Real Ale was founded in 1971 by four friends who could see the negative effect that the industrialisation of beer was having on traditional British brewing methods and natural, cask-conditioned beer. Their mission was to ensure the health and longevity of real ale, cider, perry, and the pubs that serve them, and for the benefits of responsible, social drinking to be recognised. Ever since, CAMRA has been working with government, councils, and the wider brewing industry to advocate for consumer choice, a healthy pub sector, and independent brewers. 

This advocacy work is powered by CAMRA’s ever-growing membership base, which has formed communities of like-minded drinkers all over the UK. In addition to hosting beer festivals, social events and training workshops, CAMRA also signposts members towards pubs where quality cask beer is sold, and even offers them vouchers and discounts in thousands of pubs around the country, as well as partner benefits.
