The story of Moersleutel, Dutch for "wrench," began as a challenge between four brothers and their father. Fresh out of technical studies, the brothers set out to prove they could master the art of brewing. While their first attempt was a humble failure, their persistence led to the creation of the Moersleutel Barrel Blend, an Imperial Stout that set the tone for their future. Today, the brewery is a true family affair, with their parents still working alongside them and two of the brothers running Zomerdijk Engineering, where they design and build specialised machinery for breweries around the world.
For Moersleutel, the secret to great beer lies in total control over the brewing process. They leverage their technical expertise to operate a state-of-the-art, semi-automated system that monitors everything from precise fermentation temperatures to ingredient additions. This engineering philosophy ensures that whether you are drinking a rich, 14% ABV pastry stout or a crisp, hazy IPA, the quality and flavour remain remarkably consistent. Their commitment to excellence even extends to a reverse osmosis system to purify their water, removing any impurities that could distract from the beer’s profile.
