Formosa Brewing Co.
It is commonly believed that European sailors passing Taiwan in the 1500s recorded the island’s name as Ilha Formosa, meaning beautiful island. It’s a fitting name for a brewery founded by two French homebrewers who fell in love with Taiwan, put down roots there, and in 2017, added a brewery of their own to the island’s growing craft beer scene. Three years after launching, co-founders Cyril and Julien returned to France, where they began developing a European branch of Formosa, and left Taiwanese operations in the hands of the local team.
