The story of Burning Sky began in 2013 as a leap of faith by founder Mark Tranter. After a long career leading an influential cask brewery, Mark sought a new challenge that would allow him to merge his technical expertise with a more adventurous spirit. Following a period of travel through Europe and the U.S. to hone his recipes, he transformed refurbished farm buildings in the heart of the South Downs into a true farmhouse brewery.
The brewery is celebrated for its "cavalier" yet precise approach to production, refusing to choose between modern science and ancient tradition. They operate a dual-pathway cellar: producing "fast clean" beers like punchy IPAs and pales alongside their "slower siblings" - complex, mixed-fermentation ales aged in vast oak vats. While their hop-forward beers require strict technical control to ensure freshness, their barrel-aged projects see the brewers acting as caretakers, allowing wild yeasts and time to guide the final flavour profile.
