Now the Goliath of South Africa’s beer scene, Devil’s peak was once a microbrewery like any other. Founded in 2012 by a group of friends determined to inject modern, hop-driven styles into South Africa’s macro lager-driven market, the brewery only saw major success once it ceded to demands of its local market and began to brew artisanal lagers alongside its signature pale ales and IPAs. Having bridged the gap between lager lovers and craft beer drinkers, Devil’s Peak experienced explosive growth, and in doing so paved the way for future generations of craft breweries in South Africa. Today it is the country’s biggest privately-owned brewery.
